John is a painter of figurative and gently surreal landscapes recognized for his diverse, narrative, bright and bold design. Canvases built with layers of acrylic paints, beginning with negative colors, John adds deep dimension and detail that can be appreciated when viewed up close. Crum's distinctive vibrant color palette makes his style recognizable through a wide range of techniques and subject matter.
His representational paintings incorporate an imagination that captures moments in life, romance, love, and the human spirit. Applying a curious and whimsical twist, viewers often comment that his paintings make them smile, while taking them on an unexpected and magical journey.
Always a participant in the Arts professionally since 1973, John continues to create figurative paintings and gentle surrealistic landscapes. Relocating to the beautiful island of Hilton Head in 2001, John focuses on his painting while embarking on his journey of creativity and joyful story telling. A 1973 graduate of The Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida, he still enjoys the journey of creating and expressing his thoughts and ideas on canvas.
