Young Entrepreneurs of the Gullah Geechee Culture
March 12 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us at SoundWaves as our Gullah concert event series continues featuring fifth generation Gullah descendants Jamal Edwards, dancer and choreographer, and Sonya Grant, owner of Gullah T’s N’ Tings, and other young Native Islanders entrepreneurs!
Our musical guest is Atlanta-based, Lowcountry native and soulful songstress Latrese Bush, who among many accomplishments has worked with Tony and two-time Grammy Award winner Jennifer Holliday, Grammy Award winner Gloria Gaynor, Jazz icon Phil Perry, Rhythm & Blues star Bobby V, and pop phenom Justin Bieber. Bush’s melodic vocal range has supported these and many other musical greats! When she’s not traveling the world with Gloria Gaynor performing the iconic hit “I Will Survive,” Latrese can be found singing at various venues, songwriting and making music.
Chef Wendell Osborne of Food Savvy, LLC has prepared an authentic menu including options of sweet tea brined chicken with pan gravy over Carolina gold rice pilaf, topped with Lowcountry relish (black eyed pea, corn, tomato) and crispy okra (GF); blackened mahi over Carolina gold rice pilaf, topped with Lowcountry relish (black eyed pea, corn, tomato) and crispy okra (GF); and a vegetarian option of roasted mushroom over Carolina gold rice pilaf, Lowcountry relish, and crispy okra (GF)(V).
