Tea with Clara Barton and Frances Gage

Take a trip back into time.  The year is 1883 where you will meet two of the most renowned women of the 19th century.  Clara Barton, Angel of the Battlefield, and founder of the Red Cross.  When she visited Hilton Head Island in 1863 where she met Frances Gage, a noted abolitionist and feminist. The two women forged a friendship that lasted till Frances’ death in 1884.

In this performance, Barton and Gage meet one last time on Hilton Head Island, to reflect upon their lives, challenges, and achievements in the tumultuous years after the Civil War.

Rosemary Staples and Kathy Smith have presented Clara and Frances numerous times.
