October 29 Featured Poet: Zachery Williams

Zachery Williams is a 28-year-old Black author, poet, and storyteller whose work blends historical truth, emotional vulnerability, and unapologetic social commentary. Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, his voice is deeply rooted in the cultural legacy of the Gullah-Geechee people, whose traditions and ancestral strength shape his creative expression. Through his writing and performances, Zachery seeks to honor the past, spark necessary conversations in the present, and imagine a more liberated future. His literary journey is driven by a passion for uncovering stories often left untold—stories of marginalized voices, generational pain, and hard-earned hope. His acclaimed poetry collections, Dear You: Journey of Emotions and Through the Moon Lynite, stand as powerful testaments to his ability to turn raw experience into healing art. Each poem reflects inner resilience, spiritual wrestling, and the layered beauty of identity.  He is the author of the bold and unapologetic novel, N.E.G.R.O.E.S.: Black, Before He Was Anything Else, a work that challenges narratives and centers the voices too often silenced.   Zachery’s words don’t just speak—they testify.

Corey Tate, a South Carolina native now living in Savannah, composes and performs his own work in solo gigs throughout the area, from Big Bamboo and Tin & Tallow to Jamaica Joez, GG’s and Coconutz. He promises at least one tonight using a spoken word poem as a bridge.
