Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy

Celebrated writer and Lowcountry icon Pat Conroy (1945-2016) is best remembered as author of The Water is Wide, The Great Santini, and The Prince of Tides.

Jonathan Haupt, executive director of the Pat Conroy Literary Center in Befort, will share Conroy’s empowering story through the memories of some of the writers Conroy befriended, taught, and mentored over his fifty-year writing career.

Jonathan will be joined in conversation by novelists Stephanie Austin Edwards (a Beaufort High School classmate of Conroy’s) and John Warley (a Citadel classmate of Conroy’s). All three are contributing writers to the award-winning book Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy.

Jonathan Haupt is the executive director of the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center, the former director of the University of South Carolina Press, and the coeditor of the title book.
