“Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.” The Vegan Society 1988
Vegan food does not contain meat/flesh from any animal including fish, eggs, animal milk, gelatin, honey, or animal milk derived products like whey. Vegan foods are made from fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, fungi, and seeds, and may be unprocessed, minimally processed, or highly processed. Vegan merchandise does not include leather, feathers, silk, wool, fur, shell, bones, cashmere, insects, or any other animal derivative.
Veganism is a multi-faceted animal-rights lifestyle that includes food choices. Whole-food, plant-based (WFPB) eating is a lifestyle focused on optimal nutrition. Lowcountry VegFest (LCVF) is a 100% vegan festival that will include all variations of vegan food including whole-food, plant-based options. No matter how you eat your plants, you’re welcome to join us!
