October 3 @ 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until November 21, 2024
JCostello Gallery is thrilled to announce the opening of an exhibit by Gerard Erley.
Gerard Erley is an accomplished artist with a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Illinois State
University. An Illinois native now residing in South Carolina, Erley has had over thirty solo
exhibitions throughout the United States. His award-winning artwork has been featured in over
200 juried shows, earning him more than a hundred awards. The artist’s work has been
displayed in museums and galleries from New York to California and can be found in museum,
corporate, and private collections both in the United States and abroad.
Erley is known for his stunning interpretations of landscapes. “Coastal Rhythms” explores the
serene beauty and ever-changing moods of coastal environments through Erley’s unique artistic
lens. His mastery of color, composition, and texture brings the rhythm of the sea to life on
canvas, offering a fresh perspective on familiar shores.
Erley creates his imaginary landscapes in oil paint on canvas and panels. He rarely refers to
photos or sketches, preferring to paint in the studio from memory and intuition. Influenced by
19th-century American and European painters such as George Inness, Corot, and Turner, Erley
seeks a sublime quality of light in his romantic landscapes, much like the artists who inspire him.
This collection showcases Erley’s deep connection to the natural world, capturing the essence
of coastal landscapes with a blend of realism and abstraction. Each piece resonates with the
tranquility and power of the ocean, making this exhibition a must-see for art lovers and nature
enthusiasts alike.
“Coastal Rhythms” will be on display at JCostello Gallery from Thursday September 26 th –
November 21. The gallery is open Tuesday – Sunday 5-10 pm and by appointment daily.
