2/1 – Diving into Gray’s Reef – Your National Marine Sanctuary – Emily Little
Did you know there is a nationally-protected marine sanctuary 19 miles off our local coast? Similar to a National Park, Gray’s Reef National Marine
Sanctuary belongs to all of us. As a live-bottom reef, Gray’s Reef is home to
over 200 species of fish and 900 species of invertebrates. Emily Little, Education and Outreach Coordinator for Gray’s Reef National Sanctuary will discuss why so many animals call this place home, why it’s important to protect this habitat, what we are doing in the reef and throughout the community, and how you can get involved. At the end of the presentation, guests will be invited to “dive into” the reef with the use of Virtual Reality Headsets.
Check the museum’s event calendar at www.coastaldiscovery.org/happening-this-week/ to see the most up to date schedule of programs. Most programs are $7 per person.
Reservations are required and may be made by calling 843-689-6767 ext. 223. Or visit www.coastaldiscovery.org to make your reservations online. The museum is located at 70 Honey Horn Drive on Hilton Head Island.
