The Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park’s 2nd Film Series, titled “Descendant Communities Rooted in Place,” focuses on the powerful narratives of land ownership, family inheritance, and the ongoing struggles to retain ancestral lands. Through a selection of films, the series highlights the experiences of descendants of formerly enslaved people who fought to maintain ownership of their land, which was passed down through generations. The films explore themes of resilience, community, and the challenges of preserving these legacies amid legal, economic, and social pressures.
