SUMMARY:Whispers from the Soul - The Paintings of Theresa King
DESCRIPTION:Art League Gallery presents Theresa King: Whispers from the Soul \nMay exhibit explores themes of healing\, energy\, and spiritual connection \nArt League Gallery presents Whispers from the Soul\, a deeply personal exhibition by self-taught artist Theresa King. Through a collection of expressive paintings\, King explores themes of healing\, spirituality\, and the natural world\, inviting viewers into a sense of calm and reflection. \nInspired by a lifelong connection to nature\, King’s work reflects a sense of joy\, spirituality\, and connection to healing energy. “I grew up in a chaotic atmosphere\, and the only time I felt peace was [lying] on the ground looking up at the clouds in the sky\,” she says. That early sense of quiet continues to influence her work\, where clouds and movement appear as recurring elements. “Nature has always been my inspiration. I could sit and watch clouds for hours.” \nKing began exploring art in the 1980s\, developing her practice through experimentation. “I painted a lot of terrible paintings\, and figured out what is right and wrong\,” she says. Over time\, she worked across multiple mediums before finding her preferred approach. “I tried watercolor and struggled. I tried acrylic—it dried too fast. Tried oils and fell in love with it.” Her creative process remains intuitive and guided by spirituality. “I dream my concepts and let God guide my hand in my paintings\,” King says. \nKing’s work is also shaped by significant life experiences\, including her journey through cancer and years spent caring for multiple family members—part of a long road toward recognizing her own innate healing energy. During this period\, she developed a personal approach to maintaining balance\, acknowledging difficult emotions while intentionally focusing on what brought her happiness. Over time\, she came to recognize this practice as a way of channeling that energy\, which she now infuses into her work to share with others. \nThat perspective informs the intention behind Whispers from the Soul. “What I want people to get as the message from this show: That there is energy\, and images and color\, and that energy can be healing. Quantum energy\,” she says. “I want visitors to feel calm and peaceful\, and the work to resonate with them.” \nAs a result of her artistic journey\, King has cultivated a distinctive style that reflects her interest in healing energy\, spirituality\, and the natural world—an approach that has earned her recognition among collectors and art enthusiasts around the world. \n  \nThe exhibit runs May 19–June 19\, 2026. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday\, May 20\, from 5–7 p.m.; there are two Artist Demos scheduled for Saturday\, May 30\, at 10 a.m. and Monday\, June 15\, at 10 a.m.; and there is an Artist Talk (How Color Affects People Emotionally) on Thursday\, June 4\, at 11 a.m. The exhibit\, reception\, demo\, and artist talks are free and open to the public. \n  \nWHAT: \nWhispers from the Soul | Artwork by Theresa King \n  \nWHEN: \nExhibit: Tuesday\, May 19-Friday\, June 19 at Art League Gallery \nArtist Demos: Monday\, June 15\, 10 a.m. \n

SUMMARY:Dave Potter's Retro GROOVE ~ featuring NEA JAZZ MASTER Jason Marsalis
DESCRIPTION:Show Ticket $20 – $25 \nDinner is required with all reservations. \n*6:30 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 5:15 PM \n*9:00 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 8:00 PM \nRenowned drummer Dave Potter featuring NEA Jazz Master Jason Marsalis\, will take you on a nostalgic groove down memory lane\, celebrating your favorite 1980’s hits with music from his recently released album\, Retro Grooves 2. Potter performs the most tastefully arranged jazz renditions of popular 80’s classic from artists including Whitney Houston\, The Doobie Brothers\, Paula Abdul\, Toto\, Michael Jackson\, and more. \nWhen trying to describe the music of Dave Potter\, one word probably comes to mind more than any other. Intensity. Contrary to many of his peers\, Potter got a late start when he began to play drum set while attending high school in Durham\, North Carolina. \nFascinated with the pyrotechnics and grooves of funk/fusion drummers such as Billy Cobham and Dennis Chambers\, Dave arrived at a musical crossroads when introduced to the early recordings of Tony Williams with the Miles Davis Quintet. Initially his youthful overconfidence wouldn’t allow him to admit it\, but although he had a basic understanding of the techniques and rhythms of backbeat-based music\, Jazz was a complete and total mystery. Potter became obsessed with trying to interpret this new foreign musical “language” and was lucky to find mentorship with educator and jazz trumpeter Dr. Andrew Sioberg. \nNow located in Atlanta\, he maintains a busy teaching and performing schedule while also touring with The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet\, Greg Tardy\, Eric Reed\, and Marcus Roberts\, as well as his current project as a leader\, Retro Groove.

DESCRIPTION:Show Ticket $20 – $25 \nDinner is required with all reservations \n. *6:30 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 5:15 PM \n*9:00 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 8:00 PM \nRenowned drummer Dave Potter featuring NEA Jazz Master Jason Marsalis\, will take you on a nostalgic groove down memory lane\, celebrating your favorite 1980’s hits with music from his recently released album\, Retro Grooves 2. Now located in Atlanta\, he maintains a busy teaching and performing schedule while also touring with The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet\, Greg Tardy\, Eric Reed\, and Marcus Roberts\, as well as his current project as a leader\, Retro Groove.
