DESCRIPTION:OIL & ACRYLICS RETURN TO BASICS: COLOR\, TECHNIQUE & DESIGN \n\n\n\n\nwith Instructor Alex Sharma \n  \nWHEN:\n4-WEEKS\nMondays (1 – 4pm)\nOctober 27\, November 3\, 10\, 17\, 2025 \n \nExcellence of brush or palette knife technique\, colors that stay clear and bright\, exciting compositions—the stuff that good paintings are made from is the emphasis in this course.  We will find our subject matter in studio still life and from photo references.  Expect to complete a painting each class.  Class demonstrations\, technique exercises\, hand-outs\, individual attention and critiques.   (All levels of experience). \n\n\nSKILL LEVEL: \n\n\n\n\nThis class is designed for Beginners\, Intermediate Students and Advanced Artists wanting a refresher of the basics! \nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. A list of materials you should bring with you will be provided upon registration.\n\n\nRequirements:\nDownload a printable supply listPLEASE BRING \nPAINTS: \nOil or Acrylic\n(Brands to use include: Windsor Newton (Winton)\, Grumbacher\, Golden\, Holbein\, Liquitex\, or more) \n9 BASIC COLORS:\n1. Titanium White\n2. Cadmium Yellow Light\n3. Cadmium Red\, or Cadmium Red Light\n4. Alizarin Crimson\n5. Ultramarine or Cobalt Blue\n6. Phthalo or Cerulean Blue\n7. Sap or Viridian Green\n8. Yellow Ochre\n9. Burnt Sienna \n**Bring any others you have and wish to bring. \nBRUSHES and KNIVES: \n3/4 inch flat or filbert\n(natural hog\, sable-mix\, or synthetic bristle for oil/acrylic painting) \n#6 or 8 round \n1 trowel-handed palette knife\n(metal is best but plastic will also work) \nFor Oils bring Liquin\n(a Winsor Newton Product) or linseed oil used as a thinning medium\, and ODORLESS mineral spirits for cleaning brushes. Odorless only. \nFor Acrylics bring a medium for thinning(or thin with water) \nPlease bring a palette for laying out and mixing colors\n(a piece of board or foam board approx size: 10×12″) \nRags or Paper Towels for Cleanup \nLidded Jar to hold mineral spirits or water for cleanup \nSUPPORTS \nThe following are appropriate supports for oils or acrylics: Canvas panels that come in a variety of sizes\, stretched canvas\, or Masonite (sanded and prime with gesso.)
