SUMMARY:"Painting Loosely in Watercolor" with Alex Sharma
DESCRIPTION:WHEN:\n4-WEEKS\nWednesdays (1 – 4pm)\nApril 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 2025 \nImagine clear\, transparent and luminous watercolors where your brush strokes make the shape and form of your subject without picky detail. Mastering a loose technique is the groundwork that will enable you to paint intuitively and creatively. Use of color\, specific brush technique\, transparent layering\, juxtaposition of values and use of visual texture and rhythm to create your scene are the focus of this course. We will paint from life in the studio and outdoors (weather permitting)\, and from your reference photos.  When painting from life\, Alex will start the class with a demonstration on what to look for and how to compose the scene in a loose\, balanced and lively manner. \nSKILL LEVEL:\nStudents taking this class should have completed at least one beginner watercolor course prior to taking this course. \nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops. \nIf a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given. \n\n\n\nMaterials Included:\nNo materials are included in this class. A list of materials you should bring with you will be provided upon registration.\n\n\nRequirements:\nDownload a printable supply listPLEASE BRING \nPAINTS: \nCadmium Yellow or Lemon\n(or any primary yellow) \nCadmium Red\n(not Cadmium Red light or deep) \nAlizarin Crimson \nUltramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue \nCerulean Blue \nPhthalo Blue orPrussian Blue \nSap Green or Hookers Green\n(or other green of your choice) \nYellow ochre or raw sienna \nBurnt Sienna \nBRUSHES: \nYou may already have brushes to use; however\, it is important that you have at least one good quality flat and one good quality round brush of size noted below. These two brushes form the basis of our brush technique. \nNOTE: When purchasing please look for the words\, “good spring” associated with the brush. This means that the brush hairs are not floppy when wet and will “spring” back when pressed down. This spring allows for the best control of the stroke and is very important. \nFlat Brush (3/4 inch\, 1 inch\, or larger) \nRound brush: one of the following: choose from sizes 8\, 10\, 12 or larger. \nADDITIONAL MATERIALS \nYou will need a pencil (any regular office pencil)\, a white eraser or other soft eraser\, a watercolor palette * with large areas to mix on and with spaces for each color of paint. Also\, bring a container for water such as a cottage cheese container. *A folding watercolor palette is a good choice for ease of transportation. \nPAPER: \nBring watercolor paper 140lb cold press in blocks or pad format size 11″ x 14″\, or size of your choice. DESCRIPTION:WHEN:\n3 HALF-DAYS\nWednesday to Friday (1 to 4pm)\nApril 9\, 10\, 11\, 2025 \nLearn how to Paint with Brilliant Color and Texture.\nExpand your painting skills with Oil or Acrylics. The class will start with a full painting demonstration. Carol will share her process for blocking in large simple shapes before layering colors. Learn how to capture beautiful color in your clouds\, focus on a strong composition\, define values\, establish a point of focus\, and how to see and use color effectively in your paintings. You will also learn how to interpret your reference photographs and understand the relationships between value\, color temperature and color intensity. There will be personalized teaching and individualized feedback throughout the day.\nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis class is designed for beginner students\, intermediate students and advanced students. Depending on the location\, I sometimes add Cadmium Orange\, Manganese Blue Hue or Cobalt Blue.
