DESCRIPTION:2 HALF-DAYS\nThursday & Friday (1 to 4pm)\nApril 3\, 4\, 2025 \n\nThis is your opportunity to learn how to use various shape palette knives and a paint-loaded brush to obtain texture and glassy smoothness in your paintings. Be prepared to paint along with Alex as she demonstrates palette knife and sgraffito techniques for various subjects: sky\, water\, trees\, flowers and marsh. \nThe first day focus will be to practice mixing and layering and getting comfortable using the palette knife to really get your shapes and forms to come to life. \nDuring day two\, we will paint from life in the studio and from your reference photos or your imagination. The objective is to capture the spirit of the composition’s colors and textures through simple use of palette knife and loaded brush. \nWe will have a 30-minute break for lunch\, bring your lunch or grab something quick from a nearby cafe. \nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis course is developed for intermediate and advanced oil/acrylic painters. \nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. A list of materials you should bring with you will be provided upon registration.\n\n\nRequirements:\nDownload a Printable Supply List\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE BRING \nPAINTS:\nPAINTS (oil or acrylic)\n(Brands include: Windsor Newton (Winton)\, Grumbacher\, Golden\, Liquitex\, etc.)\nYou want heavy based paints\, as you won’t be able to achieve what you want with craft/liquid paints. \n9 BASIC COLORS:\nTitanium White\nCadmium Yellow Light\nCadmium Red Middle\nAlizarin Crimson\nUltramarine Blue (or Cobalt)\nPhthalo Cerulean Blue\nSap Green\nYellow Ochre\nBurnt Sienna \nNOTE: You may have other colors as well; bring what you have. \nBRUSHES and KNIVES \n3/4 inch flat or filbert: synthetic bristle or combination natural and synthetic for oil/acrylic painting. \n#8 round (or size of your choice) \n2 trowel-handled palette knives (pick 2 different blade shapes and sizes – 1 small; 1 large) \nNOTE: Please bring a palette for laying out and mixing colors (such as a piece of board or foam board approx. size: 10″x12″)\, rags or paper towels for clean up\, and a lidded jar to hold mineral spirits or water for clean up. \nSUPPORTS \nThe following are appropriate supports for oils or acrylics: Fredrix – or other– canvas panels that come in a variety of sizes\, stretched canvas\, or Masonite sanded and primed with gesso. DESCRIPTION:Open Potters Wheel \nWho: Ages 14 to adults \nWhen: Friday Nights throughout the year! \nStarts: Beginning 6:30 pm \nHow Long: 1 & 1/2 hours\, Friday nights \nCost: $45/person/night\n(includes all materials; trimming\, glazing & firing will be completed by studio instructor) \nLooking for a new idea for a night out? Come have fun\, get messy & find your inner creativity! \nAfraid of Commitment? Throughout the year\, the studio features Open Wheel Night on Friday nights from 6:30 – 8 pm. No weekly commitment! Simply pick a date\, make a reservation online\, & come as you are to try a potter’s wheel for the night. Never thrown before…no worries\, the studio will have one of our potters here for a short demo and to help along the way. Just $45/pp for the night which includes the cost of your clay. You can also choose your favorite 2 pots (if you manage to throw something salvageable) to save. The studio will complete the glazing and firing of any pieces saved to pick up later (typically 3-4 weeks). \nOpen Wheel has proved to be a very popular event\, and with limited numbers..you will want to register online to make sure you have a wheel…one night or more…any Friday (check the calendar for upcoming dates).
