DESCRIPTION:If you have ever wanted to try to paint in oils but didn’t know how to start\, this 1-day workshop will introduce you to classic oil painting and the methods used to put paint to canvas and get you on your creative path.  All the basics to get you started on an exciting journey are covered in this workshop: paints\, brushes\, surfaces to paint on (canvas\, board etc.)\, color mixing\, mediums\, brushwork\, palette knife use\, and care of materials. All will be demonstrated and practiced. Come prepared to paint!  Bring your lunch or purchase nearby during a 30-minute lunch break. \n\n\nInformation handouts are included.  A $20 fee will cover all the materials to use in the workshop.  All paintings are yours to take home! \nNOTE:\nIn addition to the registration fee\, students should bring $20 cash to pay for use of supplies\, all of which will be provided for you. \nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis class requires zero experience. DESCRIPTION:WHEN:\n4-WEEKS\nSaturdays (1 to 4pm)\nMarch 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, 2025 \nThis course of study is designed for students who are ready to take their drawing & painting skills to a higher-level incorporating methods that have been passed down through the ages that are still available today. These methods offer a much more efficient and effective way to achieve life-like\, 3 dimensional-appearing results and a level of refinement in artistry that stands the test of time. If you have a strong desire to hone your skills and try a different way of seeing\, drawing\, and painting this is a potentially on-going course that can help you achieve a level of mastery that is well beyond the usual. Group and individualized instructions will be used with demonstrations and drawing/painting-along-side-you assistance. Practice and critiques between classes is offered and encouraged. \n\n\n\n\nThis class was designed so that you can take it either in-person or via Zoom. \nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis class is designed for intermediate and advanced level students. \nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. A list of materials you should bring with you will be provided upon registration.\n\n\n\nPrintable Supply List Here \nPLEASE BRING:\n\nBring drawings or paintings in progress\, or plan to start something new \nIf you are working from photos\, enlarge to appropriate size and mount on cardboard or surface that will sit properly on an easel (easels are provided by the Academy) \nWhatever medium you are working with (soft or vine charcoal\, charcoal or soft pencils\, color pencils\, pastel pencils\, soft pastels\, oil pastels\, oils or acrylic\, watercolor etc) \nCanvases\, panels or papers appropriate for the medium you are working with \nYour brushes\, portable palette\, paper towels\, apron\, latex gloves/mask (especially if working in pastel) \nODORLESS\, NON-TOXIC MEDIUMS AND BRUSH CLEANERS. This is required for everyone’s health. Best medium for oils is Artists Walnut Oil (NOT food walnut oil). Turpenoid Natural is the best for cleaning brushes but should not be used as a medium. Bring a plastic bag or container to take your brushes home and clean them there if you are using any other type of cleaner. \nPLUMB LINE\nmade from a string with a weighted bobber or old set of keys on the end.
