SUMMARY:Pine Needle Ornament Making with Karen McCarthy
DESCRIPTION:Join local pine needle basket maker Karen McCarthy for this exciting half-day workshop designed for beginners! \nStudents will make their very own pine needle ornament! This is a beginner’s class where participants will be given a kit which includes a choice of centers (not necessarily those pictured) for their ornament with coordinating thread and then learn the basics of coiling with longleaf pine needles\, including how to embellish the ornament with beads and different stitches.\nNOTE:\nIn addition to the registration fee\, students should bring $20 cash to pay the instructor for materials\, all of which she will provide for you. Each student will receive a kit which will include a center for the ornament\, longleaf pine needles prepared with glycerin\, waxed polyester cord\, 2 sewing needles\, beeswax and written instructions. \nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. DESCRIPTION:Join local mosaics artist Ryan McGivern for this exciting Half-Day workshop PERFECT for students of ANY level! \nStudents will make their very own mosaic ornament with mixed media\, glass and found objects. Ryan will show students how to design & execute the creation of their own personal ONE-OF-A-KIND gift or keepsake. \nThe instructor will grout the works and have them ready for pickup by Friday of the following week (November 13\, pickup from 10am to 2pm). \n\nNOTE:\nIn addition to the registration fee\, students should bring $25 cash to pay the instructor for materials\, all of which will be provided for you. Students can opt to bring an extra $10 if they wish to complete 2 ornaments. Please wear long sleeves\, pants and close toed shoes. \n\n\nA MESSAGE TO OUT OF TOWNERS:\nCompleted pieces will be ready the following week\, on Friday\, April 12\, 2024. SUMMARY:Open Drawing & Painting for Artists with Instructor Jana Stiles
DESCRIPTION:This course is designed to provide individualized assistance\, demonstrations and instruction and fun art exercises that apply to what students are trying to accomplish. Enjoy drawing and painting in a supportive atmosphere with one-on-one assistance as requested in starting a new composition or completing works in progress. Jana will work alongside students\, so tips and demonstrations are always available. \nChoose to work on any subject matter from life or photograph while exploring your creative process as an artist. Enjoy meeting other artists and learning new techniques while getting help on areas you feel “stuck.” \nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis class is designed for all levels of students. \nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Credits or Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops. \nIf a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given \nPLEASE BRING:\n\nBring drawings or paintings in progress\, or plan to start something new \nIf you are working from photos\, enlarge to appropriate size and mount on cardboard or surface that will sit properly on an easel (easels are provided by the Academy) \nWhatever medium you are working with (soft or vine charcoal\, charcoal or soft pencils\, color pencils\, pastel pencils\, soft pastels\, oil pastels\, oils or acrylic\, watercolor etc) \nCanvases\, panels or papers appropriate for the medium you are working with. \nYour brushes\, portable palette\, paper towels\, apron\, latex gloves/mask (especially if working in pastel) \nODORLESS\, NON-TOXIC MEDIUMS AND BRUSH CLEANERS. This is required for everyone’s health. Best medium for oils is Artists Walnut Oil (NOT food walnut oil). Turpenoid Natural is the best for cleaning brushes but should not be used as a medium. Bring a plastic bag or container to take your brushes home and clean them there if you are using any other type of cleaner. \nPLUMB LINE\nmade from a string with a weighted bobber or old set of keys on the end.
