DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Pottery \n  \nWho: Ages 8 and older \nWhere: Hilton Head Pottery Studio \nWhen: Thurs. – 1:00 – 3:00 pm \nStarts: Sept. 12\, 2024 \n(will meet weekly through the school year) \nHow Long: 2 hr. classes weekly \nCost: $145 / 6 week session \n(includes all materials:  clay\, glazes & firings) \n\n\n\nGive your child the chance to explore their creativity through pottery in our weekly Homeschool class. They will learn about creating pottery\, including working with clay\, sculpting\, wheel throwing\, and glazing. Pottery classes help children develop patience\, perseverance\, and problem-solving skills\, while fostering a love for art and craftsmanship. Working with clay also aids in sensory development\, motor skills\, self-esteem\, and self-expression\, and has a calming\, therapeutic effect.

DESCRIPTION:September 19\, 2024\, 5 – 6 pm \nStep back in time and “meet” Eliza Lucas Pinckney\, brought to life by author\, historian and re-enactor Peggy Pickett. At just 17 years old in 1739\, Eliza’s experiments with indigo led to a thriving industry in colonial South Carolina. Discover her fascinating story\, learn about the process of making indigo dye\, and create your own indigo tie-dye T-shirt to take home. The museum provides one t-shirt (sizes range from child medium to adult XL). Feel free to bring one additional small cotton item\, such as a shirt\, tea towel\, scarf\, or apron\, to dye as well. \n$20 per person \nPeggy’s book\, Eliza Lucas Pinckney: Colonial Plantation Manager and Mother of American Patriots\, 1722-1793\, is available for purchase in the Museum Store. \n \n
