SUMMARY:Zentangle 101: Pattern Inspired Drawing with Instructor Joan Moreau McKeever
DESCRIPTION:We’ve all done it – scribbled mindlessly on scraps of paper\, or on the edges of workbooks or on napkins at a restaurant. So what’s a doodle or zentangle\, and why are they important at all? Can they break open a portal to your creative juices? And can they become something more “worthy” like a finished drawing or the foundation for a painting or sculpture? This workshop will show you how to effectively doodle\, noodle & zentangle! Students finish the day with a framed piece of abstract art. \nThis workshop came about from Joan’s own personal experience as a stalled artist. She was forced to put off working on her art for years due to responsibilities in the “real” world. However\, once awarded the chance to start working on her art again\, she was terrified and stuck. Doodling opened the door and Joan came pouring out. Since then Joan has painted over 100 canvases\, has been featured in many shows and has been awarded multiple awards for her work. \nPLEASE NOTE:\nIn addition to the registration fee\, students should bring $20 cash with them to pay the instructor for materials\, which she will provide for students. No other materials need to be brought to class with you.\nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Credits or Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops. \nIf a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given. \n\n\n\nSkill Level:\nBeginner\n\n\nSkill Details:\nThis class is GREAT for all levels of students!\n\n\nMaterials Included:\nThere is a $20 Materials Fee due in Cash for materials which will be provided by the instructor\n\n\nRequirements:\nPLEASE BRING\n$20 cash to pay the instructor for materials she will provide \nQUESTIONS?\nEmail academy@artleaguehhi.org.

SUMMARY:Paint Fast with Oils or Acrylics with Nancy Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:During this class\, we will focus on how to create full spectrum compositions. We will use detail to create interest in the foreground and atmospheric perspective to create distance in the background. The object of this course is to learn to paint large enough to allow yourself to loosen up and enjoy the process. \nIt is important to bring a large canvas\, nothing smaller than a 24″ x 30″\, however\, bring one as large as you are comfortable with if you want to bring bigger! You’ll also bring a few photographs you are excited about and would enjoy painting. The object of this class is to paint large to enable yourself to loosen up and not be so fussy over details. We will use under-painting to speed up the process and overcome the intimidation factor of that big white canvas. \nPlease visit my website to view my work and feel free to call or email prior to or after the class with any questions. \nI am looking forward to painting with you! \n\n\n\n\nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis class was designed for oil painters of all levels. \nREFUND POLICY:\nClass fees to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. SUMMARY:Tonalism with Robert Wortmann
DESCRIPTION:Tonalism is a uniquely American art form that flourished between 1880 and 1920. Tonalist art was primarily landscape and focused on the feeling\, mood or emotion of the scene rather than producing a realistic representation of the subject. Often painting scenes of very early morning\, very late in the evening\, or foggy\, rainy days\, the tonalists used subtle colors that were restful and harmonious to the eye and employed soft and lost edges to create an atmospheric perspective and a poetic feeling. Famous tonalist painters included James McNeill Whistler\, George Innes\, Albert Pinkham Ryder and John Henry Twachtman. \nIn this workshop we will review the characteristics of tonalism\, and example works by famous painters. Following a demonstration\, students will work on their own paintings with one-on-one consultation from the instructor. The workshop will conclude with a group critique of everyone’s work. \nThe instructor will demonstrate using soft pastels\, but students are welcome to use the medium of their choice. \n\n\n\n\nSKILL LEVEL:\nThis course is open to all levels of students.\n\nREFUND POLICY:\nTicket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final.
