SUMMARY:Heart to Heart art exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Heart to Heart\, a new art exhibit by the Artists of Sea Pines opens Thursday\, February 1st at the Sea Pines Community Center  The show will debut with a reception\, free and open to the public on February 1st 4:30-6:30 pm. \nFebruary is American Heart month and a portion (10%) of every sale made by a participating artist will be donated to a “dear to our hearts” cause….Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) on Hilton Head Island. \nHeart to Heart marks the second year that artists from Hilton Head Plantation have been invited to participate.  Paintings\, photographs\, sculpture and stained glass will be on display. \nThe Sea Pines Community Center is open Monday – Friday from 8:30 – 4:30. \n71 Lighthouse Road in Sea Pines Shopping Center \nThe exhibit runs through April 26\, 2024 \n

SUMMARY:Arts Ob We People: Gullah Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Join us in collaboration with the Native Island and Business Community Affairs Association at Art League Gallery\, as we celebrate the magnificent artwork of the esteemed Alvin B. Glen. Immerse yourself in his exquisite art and thoughtfulness as this year’s celebrated artist. Indulge in a museum-wide takeover\, and basks in the brilliance of Glenn’s creations. \nGrowing up in the small town of Dorchester\, South Carolina\, during the era of Jim Crow laws\, Alvin’s artistic journey faced many challenges. Despite the lack of visual arts classes in his public school\, Alvin’s parents arranged for him to take correspondence art courses in middle school. These early experiences ignited his passion for music\, which carried him through to college. \nIn 1979\, he proudly earned my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from South Carolina State College\, with a strong focus on education. This laid the foundation for his career as a dedicated art teacher in the Orangeburg County Schools\, where he served for an impressive forty-three years before retiring. Through his artwork\, Alvin strives to capture the strength\, dedication\, and interconnectedness of the people who inspire him. Spirituality\, compassion\, and empathy flow through every brushstroke\, creating images that resonate with viewers. After a brief period living in Orangeburg\, he returned to his hometown of Dorchester in 1985. Over the years\, he has had the honor of showcasing his work at various galleries throughout South Carolina\, as well as briefly in North Carolina and Georgia. Some notable galleries include The Dr. N. Lee Morris Gallery\, Waterfront Gallery\, I.P. Stanback Museum\, Penn Center\, and The Columbia Museum of Art. His recognitions include winning first place at the Charleston Artist Guild Exhibit\, Featured Artist for The Moja Arts Festival and Best in Show award at the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibit. Today\, Alvin resides in beloved Dorchester\, South Carolina\, enjoying the serenity of retirement after dedicating my life to teaching visual art in the public school system. \nOPEN: Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm\, Sunday 12-4pm + 90 minutes before all Arts Center performances.
