SUMMARY:Sullivan Fortner Trio! GRAMMY Winning PIANIST - COMPOSER - BANDLEADER
DESCRIPTION:Show Ticket $25 – $35 \nDinner is required with all reservations. \n*6:30 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 5:15 PM – SOLD OUT \n*9:00 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 8:00 PM \nGRAMMY WINNING PIANIST – COMPOSER – BANDLEADER \nFor more than a decade\, Sullivan Fortner has been stretching deep-rooted talents as a pianist\, composer\, band leader and uncompromising individualist. The GRAMMY Award-winning artist and educator out of New Orleans received international praise as both key player and producer for his collaborative work on The Window\, alongside Cecile McLorin Salvant\, and earned a 2023 GRAMMY nomination for his provocative arrangement of “Optimistic Voices/No Love Dying” from her 2022 release Ghost Song. \nAs a solo leader he has issued Aria (2015)\, Moments Preserved (2018) and Solo Game (2024) to critical acclaim\, the lattermost receiving 4-star reviews in DownBeat and France’s Telerama Magazine. Slated for release in 2025\, his forthcoming trio recording Southern Nights features Peter Washington and Marcus Gilmore. \nWinner of the 2024 DownBeat Critics Poll for Rising Star Jazz Group: Sullivan Fortner Trio\, the prolific artist has enjoyed creative associations with Wynton Marsalis\, Paul Simon\, Diane Reeves\, Etienne Charles and John Scofield; his frequent and longtime collaborators have included Ambrose Akinmusire\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Stefon Harris\, Kassa Overall\, Tivon Pennicott\, Peter Bernstein\, Nicholas Payton\, Billy Hart\, Gary Bartz\, Chief Adjuah and the late Roy Hargrove. \nPlaying solo or leading an orchestra\, Fortner engages harmony and rhythmic ideas through curiosity and clarity. Coming up in New Orleans\, he began playing piano at age 7\, earning his Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and Master of Music in Jazz Performance from Manhattan School of Music (MSM). A champion of mentorship\, Fortner has offered masterclasses at MSM\, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA)\, Purdue University\, Lafayette Summer Music Workshop\, Belmont University and Oberlin Conservatory where he held a faculty position and subsequently returned as visiting professor of jazz piano. \nA highly-sought improviser\, Fortner has performed at Snug Harbor\, New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts\, Sweet Lorraine’s and The Jazz Playhouse in New Orleans\, and Jazz at Lincoln Center\, Jazz Standard and Smalls Jazz Club in New York City. He’s appeared at Newport\, Monterey\, Discover\, Tri-C and Gillmore Keyboard jazz festivals. In 2019\, Fortner brought his band to the historic Village Vanguard for a week-long engagement he would reprise in 2020 as a virtual performance during lockdown. His notable studio contributions include work on Etienne Charles’s Kaiso (Culture Shock\, 2011)\, Donald Harrison’s Quantum Leap (FOMP\, 2010)\, and Theo Croker’s The Fundamentals (Left Sided Music\, 2007). \nFortner’s artistry preserves the tradition and evolves the sound. He seeks connections among different musical styles that are at once deeply soulful and wildly inventive. Both his works and his insights have been featured in culture drivers from The New York Times to The Root. Further accolades include the 2015 Cole Porter Fellowship awarded by the American Pianists Association\, Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship\, the 2016 Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists\, the prestigious Shifting Foundation Grant in 2020 for artistic career development and the 2024 Western Jazz Presenters grant\, which allowed him to tour the west coast with his trio.

SUMMARY:Quentin E. Baxter Presents: The Rodney Jordan Quintet CD Release "MEMPHIS BLUE"
DESCRIPTION:Show Ticket $25 \nDinner is required with all reservations. \n*6:30 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 5:15 PM – SOLD OUT \n*9:00 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 8:00 PM \nRodney Jordan Quintet CD Release Tour! \nThese concerts kick off a CD release tour of bassist/educator/composer Rodney Jordan’s album MEMPHIS BLUE. \nJordan is certainly no stranger to the Lowcountry audiences\, having facilitated the bass chair in performances with world-renowned artists such as vocalist René Marie and pianist Marcus Roberts. Rodney is one of the most versatile jazz bassists on the scene today; Jordan’s tone is rich and soulful when he plays hauntingly beautiful phrases with the bow. Just as readily\, he plays fast virtuosic passages with apparent effortless skill. Jordan’s knowledge of harmony from his classical bass training combined with the relentless feeling of swing in his playing is a perfect fit for the powerful melodic\, blues-based\, syncopated improvisational sound of the Marcus Roberts Trio. \nJordan can be heard on numerous recordings\, including the Marcus Roberts Trio\, Marcus Roberts Nonet\, Béla Fleck & the Marcus Roberts Trio\, René Marie\, Russell Gunn\, Curtis Fuller\, Bill Anschell\, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra\, Melvin Jones\, and Scotty Barnhart.

SUMMARY:Two-Time GRAMMY Nominee Cyrile Aimee with Pianist/Composer Mathis Picard
DESCRIPTION:Show Ticket $30 \nDinner is required with all reservations. \n*6:30 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 5:15 PM \n*9:00 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 8:00 PM \nCyrille’s talents quickly gained her a reputation among her peers as a fearless\, warm\, witty improviser and a matchless interpreter of song: she performed and recorded with Roy Hargrove\, stole the show in front of the notoriously hard-to-please crowd at the Harlem Apollo\, and won a string of competitions culminating in First Prize at the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. \nA contract with Mack Avenue Records\, the home of many of the US premier league jazz artists\, resulted in two highly acclaimed albums which attracted the attention of one of the premier league songwriters – Steven Sondheim. The musical theatre icon invited her to star alongside the legendary Bernadette Peters in an Encores Special Presentation tribute at New York’s City Centre in November 2013\, backed by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra\, which was hailed by the New York Daily News as “a revelation.” Her 2019 album Move On featured versions of Sondheim’s songs which received praise from Sondheim himself\, and one of its songs\, “Marry Me a Little”\, was nominated for a 2019 Grammy Award. Starting in 2020\, she reached out into the digital realm via a string of YouTube video collabs with the pianist and jazz influencer Emmet Cohen\, and their version of ‘La Vie enRose’ has been viewed more than 7 million times to date. \nAt the height of her New York success\, new horizons beckoned. A growing interest in sharing her vision of the interaction of spontaneity and creativity\, and the importance of community\, led to her developing her ideas into a TEDx Talk about the laws of improvisation and how they apply to life. A visit to New Orleans resulted in her falling in love with the city and moving there in 2017. NO’s unique mix of Latin\, French and African-American Jazz heritage allowed her to fully explore all the sides of her own musical identity\, freeing her to look beyond the constrictions of genre and to engage with her own inner creativity. Energized\, unstoppable\, in 2021 she bought a plot of land in the forests of Costa Rica\, designed and built a house on it\, and there in the calm of the forest started putting together material for a new project: songs drawn from her own life\, encompassing every aspect of her journey so far.
