SUMMARY:This is Not: Aldwyth in Retrospect
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Coastal Discovery Museum will present an exhibition of the rarely seen works of Hilton Head-based artist Aldwyth\, from October 16 to March 23\, 2025.  The public is invited to the opening reception on October 17\, from 5-7 pm. Guest Curator Mark Sloan will give a tour of the exhibition before the reception. \n  \nThis is Not: Aldwyth in Retrospect spans nearly 70 years of her work\, including early examples of photography\, painting\, and fiber\, as well as her later bricolages and epic-scaled\, intricate collages that take viewers on a creative journey through time and space.   Although Aldwyth has lived and worked on Hilton Head since 1967\, her works have rarely been seen in the area. Her unique evolution as an artist is the subject of the documentary\, Aldwyth: Fully Assembled\, by award-winning filmmaker Olympia Stone. The Museum plans to screen the film in early 2025.

SUMMARY:Anything MOSE! The MOSE ALLISON Project - John Chin Featuring Richard Julian
DESCRIPTION:Friday and Saturday\, November 8 and 9\, 2024 \n  \nAnything MOSE! ~ The MOSE ALLISON Project ~ John Chin Featuring Richard Julian \n  \nHonoring legendary pianist/singer/composer Mose Allison’s unique\, profound wit in music and lyrics and his major influence on musicians of the last 50 years! \n  \nJohn Chin is a pianist and composer as comfortable within the tradition as he is outside of its boundaries. His album with vocalist Richard Julian\, Anything Mose\, honors the work of Mose Allison\, and will doubly engage jazz listeners and beyond. \nAs a leader\, Chin is featured on four critically acclaimed solo recordings\, and his contribution to vocalist Rene Marie’s The Sound of Red earned him a Grammy nomination. When he sought out singer-songwriter Richard Julian for a side project\, it turned out that Allison was their common denominator. \nJulian has recorded and toured six albums of his own; is a member of The Little Willies with Norah Jones and Jim Campilongo; and is a serious study of the Mose Allison songbook. After Chin and Julian booked gigs at Smalls Jazz Club and Rockwood Music Hall playing Mose Allison material\, they had a sold out appearance at Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center. \n  \nWe are thrilled to welcome The John Chin Quintet featuring Richard Julian to The Jazz Corner! \n  \nthejazzcorner.com for info and reservations
