DESCRIPTION:The Performing Arts Consortium presents a TPAC Artists Recital at Crescendo with pianist Dasha Bukhartseva and cellist Marcel Krasner in a delightful program of Dvorak\, Piazzolla\, Janacek and Kodaly. \nUkrainian pianist Dasha Bukhartseva is an active solo and chamber performer. She is currently finishing her Doctorate degree at Stony Brook University\, where she teaches in the Undergraduate department. Dasha’s main musical vision is to expose the audience to unfamiliar music from different nations\, making an emphasis on Folk Music with the intention of destroying divisions and prejudices between people through the beauty of universal unspoken language. \nCellist\, Marcel Krasner is a soloist\, chamber musician and founder of Velveteen Ensemble\, whose mission is to provide opportunities by collaborating with composers\, musicians\, dancers and other artists.  Marcel had completed his undergraduate studies at Brooklyn College\, where he studied Music Performance and Business\, Finance and Management and holds a Master of Music degree from Story Brook University\, where he studied with Colin Carr. Marcel’s goal is to open people’s eyes to the importance of classical music.

DESCRIPTION:16 year old violinist Caroline Smoak\, will perform  several classical works\, with pianist Emily Ubanek. Caroline is a student of Dr. Carolyn Huebl\, at Vanderbilt University (pre-college). Caroline was the 2016 and 2018 Peter Perret Competition winner\, soloing with the Winston Salem Symphony twice.  She recently won the Curb Competition and will solo with the Nashville Symphony. Caroline was selected as a finalist in the Hilton Head Symphony Youth Concerto Competition four times\, medaling twice. The past four summers\, Caroline has attended Perlman Music Program in Long Island\, NY\, studying with Itzhak Perlman and his staff. Under the tutelage of Connie Heard at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music\, she is a recipient of the prestigious Myra Jackson Blair scholarship. As winner of the Samuel Fordis Young Artists Concerto Competition\, Iris made her solo orchestral debut with the Georgia Philharmonic in 2018. Later that year\, she soloed with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra as a participant in the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program.  Recently\, Iris was a prize winner in the 2019 Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra – Youth Concerto Competition. \nIris won the junior strings divisions of the 2019 Tennessee American String Teachers Association (ASTA) competition\, the Tennessee state and southern region of the Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA) competitions competed in MTNA’s National finals in Spokeane Washington. Iris has served as concertmaster of various community and festival orchestras and is a member of Vanderbilt’s Curb Youth Symphony. She will solo with the orchestra in May 2019. \nIris will present a program of classical music with pianist Chee-Hang See.
