SUMMARY:Conceptual Threads - Art Quilters of the Lowcountry
DESCRIPTION:Conceptual Threads\, a new exhibit by the Art Quilters of the Lowcountry\, a cooperative of fiber artists. The exhibit will be on view May 13 – July  26. \nThe public is invited to attend the opening reception on Thursday\, May 14\, from 5 to 7 pm. Admission to the museum is free. \nConceptual Threads features 60+ works by the cooperative’s four members — Ron Hodge\, Roberta (Ro) Morrissey\, Peg Weschke\, and Jody Wigton— plus four guest quilters selected by the group.  Guest quilters are Chris Lanigan\, Deborah Legiadre\, Marty Kotter\, and Candace Hackett Shively. \n“We are delighted to once again showcase these award-winning fiber artists who explore both abstract themes and personal stories through this unique art form\,” said Elizabeth Greenberg\, Director of Exhibitions\, at the Coastal Discovery Museum. \nConceptual Threads celebrates how the artists use fabric and thread to share ideas\, emotions\, and connections that go beyond what is seen on the surface\, said Morrissey\, known for her painterly approach. “Each quilt is an invitation to experience quilts not only as works of art\, but also as conversations—between tradition and innovation\, artist and viewer\, and the threads that tie us all together.” \n

DESCRIPTION:Annual fundraiser offers guests the chance to take home original art for just $100 \nThe excitement is building for Art League of Hilton Head’s much-anticipated annual fundraiser\, Got Art?. This fast-paced\, one-night-only event ensures that every ticket holder goes home with an original work of art. This year’s event takes place Friday\, October 3\, 2025\, and promises to be as thrilling as ever. \nOver 100 original artworks\, created and donated by Art League member artists\, will be displayed at Art League Gallery from September 30 to October 3 for a free public preview. Only 100 tickets will be sold\, each priced at $100. On event night\, names are drawn at random\, and when your name is called\, you get to choose your favorite piece from the collection. Every ticket is a winner\, and every artwork is valued well above the ticket price. \n“Got Art? is one of our most exciting and unpredictable events of the year\,” says Kristen McIntosh\, Art League Executive Director. “The energy in the room is incredible. There is suspense\, laughter\, and joy as people watch their favorites get picked and cheer for their friends. It is a wonderful way to bring the community together in support of the arts.” \nThe Got Art? preview runs Tuesday through Friday\, September 30 to October 3\, from 10am to 4pm at Art League Gallery. The event begins with a preview reception from 4 to 5pm\, followed by the live drawing from 5 to 7pm. Guests are encouraged to arrive early\, scope out their favorite pieces during the preview days\, and be ready to choose quickly when their name is called. \nAll proceeds benefit Art League of Hilton Head’s year-round exhibitions\, educational programs\, and community outreach initiatives. \nTickets are $100 each and can be purchased at www.ArtLeagueHHI.org or by calling (843) 681-5060. Availability is limited. Once the 100 tickets are sold\, they are gone.

SUMMARY:Terry Beylotte: Redemption
DESCRIPTION:From comic book sketches in childhood to vibrant canvases born in confinement\, Terry Beylotte’s art is a testament to resilience\, transformation\, and redemption. His latest exhibition\, on view October 7-November 7 at Art League Gallery\, shares a body of work forged in adversity yet radiant with hope. Through expressive color\, layered symbolism\, and raw honesty\, Beylotte’s paintings reveal a journey from darkness to light\, inviting viewers to reflect on struggle\, survival\, and the possibility of renewal. “Art became my freedom and my redemption\,” says Beylotte. “Every piece is a part of my story\, and I hope it inspires others to see that even in the darkest places\, light can break through.” \nBeylotte’s path to art was anything but conventional. After being incarcerated at age 16\, he discovered painting in 2013 through a character program at Allendale Correctional. What began as an outlet became a vocation\, leading him to co-found Art 4 Hope and the Advanced Artists of Allendale\, groundbreaking programs that brought inmate-created art into the public eye for the first time at the Art League Gallery. \nLargely self-taught\, Beylotte immersed himself in art books\, television programs\, and mentorships with local artists such as Art Cornell and the Nagel family. These influences\, combined with his own relentless practice\, shaped an eclectic style marked by both expressive power and deep personal symbolism. His canvases embody what he calls “the conflict between life’s hardships and the beauty that pours through the cracks through overcoming.” \nAn opening reception will be held Wednesday\, October 8\, 5-7pm\, featuring live music by Estee. A Meet & Greet and Demo is scheduled for Saturday\, October 11\, 5-7pm. The exhibit\, reception\, and Meet & Greet/Demo are free and open to the public.
