SUMMARY:Conceptual Threads - Art Quilters of the Lowcountry
DESCRIPTION:Conceptual Threads\, a new exhibit by the Art Quilters of the Lowcountry\, a cooperative of fiber artists. The exhibit will be on view May 13 – July  26. \nThe public is invited to attend the opening reception on Thursday\, May 14\, from 5 to 7 pm. Admission to the museum is free. \nConceptual Threads features 60+ works by the cooperative’s four members — Ron Hodge\, Roberta (Ro) Morrissey\, Peg Weschke\, and Jody Wigton— plus four guest quilters selected by the group.  Guest quilters are Chris Lanigan\, Deborah Legiadre\, Marty Kotter\, and Candace Hackett Shively. \n“We are delighted to once again showcase these award-winning fiber artists who explore both abstract themes and personal stories through this unique art form\,” said Elizabeth Greenberg\, Director of Exhibitions\, at the Coastal Discovery Museum. \nConceptual Threads celebrates how the artists use fabric and thread to share ideas\, emotions\, and connections that go beyond what is seen on the surface\, said Morrissey\, known for her painterly approach. “Each quilt is an invitation to experience quilts not only as works of art\, but also as conversations—between tradition and innovation\, artist and viewer\, and the threads that tie us all together.” \n

SUMMARY:Gerard Erley's "Coastal Rhythms" Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:JCostello Gallery is thrilled to announce the opening of an exhibit by Gerard Erley.\nGerard Erley is an accomplished artist with a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Illinois State\nUniversity. An Illinois native now residing in South Carolina\, Erley has had over thirty solo\nexhibitions throughout the United States. His award-winning artwork has been featured in over\n200 juried shows\, earning him more than a hundred awards. The artist’s work has been\ndisplayed in museums and galleries from New York to California and can be found in museum\,\ncorporate\, and private collections both in the United States and abroad.\nErley is known for his stunning interpretations of landscapes. “Coastal Rhythms” explores the\nserene beauty and ever-changing moods of coastal environments through Erley’s unique artistic\nlens. His mastery of color\, composition\, and texture brings the rhythm of the sea to life on\ncanvas\, offering a fresh perspective on familiar shores.\nErley creates his imaginary landscapes in oil paint on canvas and panels. He rarely refers to\nphotos or sketches\, preferring to paint in the studio from memory and intuition. Influenced by\n19th-century American and European painters such as George Inness\, Corot\, and Turner\, Erley\nseeks a sublime quality of light in his romantic landscapes\, much like the artists who inspire him.\nThis collection showcases Erley’s deep connection to the natural world\, capturing the essence\nof coastal landscapes with a blend of realism and abstraction. Each piece resonates with the\ntranquility and power of the ocean\, making this exhibition a must-see for art lovers and nature\nenthusiasts alike. \n“Coastal Rhythms” will be on display at JCostello Gallery from Thursday September 26 th –\nNovember 21. The gallery is open Tuesday – Sunday 5-10 pm and by appointment daily.\nFor more information\, please contact Judith Costello at 843-686-6550.
