SUMMARY:Steel Magnolias
DESCRIPTION:“Steel Magnolias\,” a beloved comedy-drama that celebrates friendship\, resilience\, and the strength of women\, takes the stage at Sea Glass Stage Company in Coligny Plaza May 1-17. The action is set in Truvy’s beauty shop in a small town in Louisiana\, where four longtime friends gather weekly to get their hair done and their spirits lifted. Add in Shelby\, the engaged daughter of one of the ladies\, plus a shy new stylist who is struggling with a failed marriage\, and the scene is set for some mild wedding drama\, lots of laughs (often at one another’s expense)\, and a few surprises. \nAs the story evolves and reveals a health crisis\, the women strengthen their bond as they face adversity – clinging to hope\, trust in one another\, and the endurance of their shared relationships. \nPurchase tickets at sgstage.org.

SUMMARY:Hairspray: The Broadway Musical
DESCRIPTION:You Can’t Stop the Beat! \nIn 1962 Baltimore\, Maryland\, quirky teen Tracy Turnblad’s dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show\, a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show. \nOvernight\, Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star\, and uses her newfound influence to advocate for racial integration on the show. Tracy faces scrutiny and bullying from the network producer\, Velma\, and her popular yet vicious\, daughter Amber. With the help of the teenage heartthrob Link\, host Corny Collins\, and Motormouth Maybelle\, Tracy strives to overcome the odds to integrate The Corny Collins Show. The Tony Award-winning Hairspray continues to be a crowd-pleasing favorite\, not only because of its wit and charm\, but also because of the beautiful message of acceptance and progress that it portrays. The bright\, energetic story of Tracy Turnblad teaches us all to look past the color of one’s skin and fight for every human being’s equal rights. \n  \nDirected by David Grindrod \nhttps://ci.ovationtix.com/35023/production/1265861

SUMMARY:The Shark is Broken
DESCRIPTION:THE SHARK IS BROKEN  \nby Ian Shaw & Joseph Nixon. \ndirected by Jay Briggs. \nMay 14 – 24\, 2026 \nThe open ocean\, 1974. Filming is delayed . . . again. The lead actors—theatre veteran Robert Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider—are crammed into a too-small boat\, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. Alcohol flows\, egos collide\, and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic . . . if it doesn’t sink them all.

SUMMARY:Champian Fulton Trio ~ Award-Winning Jazz Pianist & Vocalist
DESCRIPTION:Show Ticket $25 – $30 \nDinner is required with all reservations. \n*6:30 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 5:15 PM (SOLD OUT) \n*9:00 PM SHOW – DINNER RESERVATIONS FROM 8:00 PM \n“Champian is the most gifted pure Jazz singer of her generation” – Mark Stryker\, Detroit Free Press \n“a charming young steward of the mainstream Jazz tradition.” – Nate Chinen\, The New York Times \n“… a balm for the soul. Champian sounds\, always\, like she’s having the time of her life” – ALL ABOUT JAZZ \nBorn in Oklahoma\, Champian is considered one of the most gifted pure Jazz musicians of her generation. She grew up with music in the home; her mother and father (Jazz trumpeter and educator Stephen Fulton) recognized her fascination with music at an early age. The presence of her father’s musician friends\, including Clark Terry and Major Holley\, inspired her focus on Jazz. Her first paid musical engagement was with her own band at Clark Terry’s 75th Birthday Party; she was 10 years old. Since then\, her piano and voice skills have been recognized by peers and critics as distinctive and sophisticated. This young woman from Oklahoma captivates audiences in New York’s finest Jazz rooms and in concert halls around the world. \nRecognized as a Rising Jazz Star by the Downbeat Magazine Critic’s Poll\, Champian was also named Pianist and Vocalist of 2019 by Hot House Magazines Readers Poll. Her “galvanizing presence” (the New Yorker) and her alluring musical presentation have made her “a charming young steward of the mainstream Jazz tradition.” (The New York Times)
