SUMMARY:Make a Pair of Mugs - Hand Building
DESCRIPTION:Make a Pair of Mugs – Hand Building Techniques \nWho: Ages 14 through Adult\nWhen: Wednesday morning – 10 am – 12 pm \nStarts: Apr. 8\, May 6\, or May 27\, 2026…a 1 day project!\nHow Long: 2 Hour Class – 1-day session \nCost: $75/person \nWhere: Hilton Head Pottery Studio (includes all materials\, glazes\, and firing costs) \nIt’s time to treat yourself to a fun 1-day project. We have a perfect opportunity for you to experience hand-building while we make spectacular pieces…your very own pair of mugs. Our one-day class will include an introduction to rolling slabs\, texturing\, sculpting\, & constructing your creation. Your mug can take on its own unique shape…handles looking like mushrooms\, tree frogs\, snakes\, or abstract curly-cues. Your masterpiece will be fired and ready for pickup in a few weeks after class. \nOur teaching method is hands-on\, and class sizes are intentionally small so we can provide individualized attention as needed. This class is fun and low-key…we want you to learn what it takes to create a pottery piece\, but it’s just as important to have a good experience. \n  \nThis Class is limited to 10 participants

SUMMARY:Time Collage - Layers of Life - Debi
DESCRIPTION:Layers of Life: \nArtwork by Debi West \nLocal artist and longtime art educator Debi West brings Layers of Life to the Art League Gallery this April. Showcasing more than forty years of creative exploration\, the exhibition revisits and transforms works from her personal archive\, turning past canvases\, photographs\, and surfaces into renewed expressions. Emphasizing curiosity\, reflection\, and the evolving nature of art\, Layers of Life encourages viewers to engage with each piece as part of a living process where meaning grows and shifts over time. \n“Layers of Life is a conversation between who I was\, who I am\, and who I am still becoming. It is both a personal archive and a shared experience\,” says West. “Rather than leaving earlier pieces behind\, I return to them—recycling\, reworking\, and reimagining them—so that nothing is erased and each layer carries traces of what came before\, reflecting how meaning accumulates through experience\, reflection\, and time.” \nWith more than four decades in the visual arts\, West has built a career shaped by both studio practice and art education. She spent 25 years teaching in Gwinnett County\, Georgia—including 10 years as Fine Arts Department Chair at North Gwinnett High School—before transitioning into educational consulting and graduate instruction\, where she continues to mentor educators through her writing and teaching. \nA nationally recognized artist and retired art educator\, West has exhibited her work nationwide. She was named National Elementary Art Educator\, National Southeastern Secondary Art Educator\, and Distinguished Fellow of the National Art Education Association\, and has authored more than 200 articles and several books. \nWith Layers of Life\, West invites visitors to engage directly with the work. “As an art educator\, I have always believed that art is most powerful when it invites participation\,” she says. “Visitors are invited to contribute images\, marks\, and ideas\, collectively building a piece that will shift and metamorphosize throughout the course of the exhibition.” \n

SUMMARY:Hairspray: The Broadway Musical
DESCRIPTION:You Can’t Stop the Beat! \nIn 1962 Baltimore\, Maryland\, quirky teen Tracy Turnblad’s dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show\, a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show. \nOvernight\, Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star\, and uses her newfound influence to advocate for racial integration on the show. Tracy faces scrutiny and bullying from the network producer\, Velma\, and her popular yet vicious\, daughter Amber. With the help of the teenage heartthrob Link\, host Corny Collins\, and Motormouth Maybelle\, Tracy strives to overcome the odds to integrate The Corny Collins Show. The Tony Award-winning Hairspray continues to be a crowd-pleasing favorite\, not only because of its wit and charm\, but also because of the beautiful message of acceptance and progress that it portrays. The bright\, energetic story of Tracy Turnblad teaches us all to look past the color of one’s skin and fight for every human being’s equal rights. \n  \nDirected by David Grindrod \nhttps://ci.ovationtix.com/35023/production/1265861
