Why Ride?

Pedal Provides – We Need You Now More Than Ever

Come and celebrate Hilton Head’s culture, award-winning cycling, and our community’s resilience while raising funds to support the most valuable asset we have, our children. Peddlers will not only enjoy cycling but will bask in Hilton Head’s beach lifestyle while learning about our exceptional history and visiting our newest Island gem, Lowcountry Celebration Park!

Pedal Hilton Head Island has been a cornerstone event for the Boys and Girls Club Community for 15 years. Typically, the Club serves 325 kids served daily. For the first time in the Club’s 30-year history, we are operating a full-day distance learning assistance program so parents can earn while their kids learn. Your support of Pedal Hilton Head Island supports our commitment to keep children on the path to academic success despite the COVID-19 crisis.

New for this year: Every participant can help raise funds for the Boys and Girls Club and have every dollar matched by generous donors. After you register, you will receive a link to a GoFundMe-Charity site created for Pedal. Whether you make an additional donation yourself or get friends and family to support your ride, your generosity will help us serve the kids at the Boys and Girls Club. http://bit.ly/PedalChallenge2021

Back this year but on a new day during National Bike Month, Sunday, May 2nd, 2021, Pedal Hilton Head is proud to partner with the best our Island has to offer, providing participants with an amazing backdrop for the most impactful bike ride you will take all year.

A Safe & Distanced Packet Pickup will occur on Saturday afternoon, May 1st, and Sunday morning, May 2nd.

Rides for every level of cyclist give peddlers a chance to see Hilton Head Island, a Gold Level Bike Friendly Community, through a two-wheeled lens; featuring some of the best vistas on the Island.

Pedal Provides – We Need You Now More Than Ever

MISSION

Pedal Hilton Head has two missions, the first is to be a marquee cycling event in our Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community. The second and most important mission is to fund programs and scholarships at the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island for those kids who need us the most. Parents and caregivers can rely on the Club to provide childcare, unique learning and recreation opportunities, and a healthy source of food for their children. All of which would not be available without generous donors like you. The Club also provides part and full-time employment for over 20 members of the Hilton Head community plus draws from the incredible volunteers that make the Island who we are!

The Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head has faced extreme challenges since the onset of COVID-19. The facility was forced to close temporarily in early 2020 and left our most vulnerable members (kids) at risk. The Club was able to safely reopen for a summer program serving a limited number of members. In the fall and into the spring, the Club partnered with the Beaufort County School District to provide a safe and well-staffed environment to support virtual learning.

The Club is a cornerstone of daily life for the children and teens that it serves daily. Many of them are from low-income families: 63% of Club Members (children) are from families living in poverty, 71% do not have health insurance, 54% live in single-parent households and many do not have a home to call their own.

Pedal Hilton Head’s fundraising goal has never had higher stakes, as the world reels with uncertainty, it is more important than ever to provide stability for our members. While we never know what the future holds, donors to the Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head can be assured that the positive impacts of their contributions are felt across Hilton Head daily. The Boys and Girls Club provides exceptional after-school, summer education, recreation, and other enrichment programs. Participants in the Club are given the tools to become better students and active community members.

Your 2021 registration and contributions support our programs which focus on academic success, a healthy lifestyle, and being good, productive, caring citizens. The Club works with staff, the board, and community volunteers to continually improve programming and our facilities to meet the changing and growing needs of the children of Hilton Head.

Sponsor A Child from The Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head Island

Our Pedal-for-a-Kid challenge is back bigger and better than ever for 2021. Your $300 registration fee lets you ride for a specific child served by the Boys and Girls Club, and you’ll proudly wear their picture on your jersey as you ride. It also entitles you to the 2021 Pedal cycling jersey as part of your swag. If registered by March 5th, your jersey will be in your packet on pick-up day and you can wear your jersey on May 2nd for the main ride.

Pedal-for-a-Kid riders are encouraged to fundraise beyond their $300 registration. As an added incentive, $150 of the $300 registration fee will be matched by a generous donor. So, every $300 registration provides $450 of value to the Club. Beyond that, every single dollar donated or raised by Pedal-for-a-Kid riders will be matched by our donor, making every dollar effectively DOUBLED. Learn more about the challenge and how you can fundraise here: http://bit.ly/PedalChallenge2021

Again, those Pedal-for-a-Kid Benefits are:

  • 2021 Signature Pedal Cycling Jersey, Dry-Fit Shirt, and Swag Bag
  • Picture of the child you are riding to support
  • Customized resource help for GoFundMe-Charity solicitations, as needed
  • If registered by 3/5/21, get a jersey in time for the ride
  • Automatic $150 match, so $300 fee is a $450 value to Boys and Girls Club.
  • Additional fundraising fully matched

After you register, you will receive a link to a GoFundMe-Charity site created for Pedal. Don’t let this enriching opportunity pass you by. This year, Pedal-for-a-Kid!

Our 2021 Signature Jersey, Dry-Fit Shirt, and Swag Bag!
