Celebrating the bicentennial of the 1824 premiere of arguably one of the most significant contributions to human culture, The HHSO presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the “Ode to Joy”. Music Director John Morris Russell leads two performances, including singers from throughout the region and across the continent: W, X, Y, and Z from the Sherrill Milnes VOICExperience, and a chorus of exceptional singers from South Carolina’s vaunted HBCU, Claflin University and the HHSO Chorus under the direction of John Morris Russell. “This singular work expresses Beethoven’s deepest desire for unity, hope, and joy among all people.
