Arts Center of Coastal Carolina

 

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina opened in 1996 and is a non-profit multi-arts organization which owns a 45,000 sf visual and performing arts facility on 4.6 acres. Over 1,400,000 have attended programs at the award-wining Arts Center, which is South Carolina’s third largest arts organization serving a four-county region.

The Arts Center operates 360 days year round and is the state’s largest professional theater. Arts Center programs include producing Actor’s Equity theater of musicals, mysteries, dramas and comedies; presenting jazz, contemporary music, humorists, vocal artists and world dance in its Great Performances series; and exhibits of youth and educator visual arts as well as hosting the Art League in residence at its Gallery.

The Arts Center produces free community outreach festivals including the Taste of Gullah and Youth ArtFest which is a partnership with the Island School Council for the Arts as well as the Town’s Christmas Tree Lighting.

The Arts Center has also provided well over 250,000 education services since opening in 1996. Extensive education activities include the early childhood enrichment ArtStart; program performances for students on-site and at off-site locations at schools and youth centers; artistic, technical and classroom support for our adopted school, the HHIE School for the Creative Arts; professional development for educators; adult workshops; state-curriculum based home school art classes; youth camps in drama, performing arts, clay and the visual arts and special needs.

As an affiliate of the Kennedy Center’s VSA Program, the Arts Center serves middle and high school students with disabilities, providing art lessons to create visual arts projects using a variety of media and methods.

The Arts Center is also a founding Kennedy Center Partner in Education (SC’92) and is the recipient of many awards including the Governor’s Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award winner as the state’s Best Arts Organization, Rotary Cultural Leadership award 2017, Trip Advisor Award of Excellence 2018, 2016, 2015, and Broadway Magazine Southeast Awards in Directing, Choreography, Costume and Lighting.

Rentals are available for our Wallace Theater, Jakes Black Box Studio, Disney Art Studio, Heritage Room parlor, Woods Community Room, Hargray theater lobby -- all with catering kitchen, beverage services and management staff available.
